SAM delivering keynote in Oslo | EuroSense 2026

SAM Sensory and Consumer Research is excited to present our latest research at EuroSense this September!

Lise Dreyfuss, SAM Innovation Manager, will deliver the keynote presentation: “Bringing sensory and consumer science closer to real life”.

Lise will explore how approaches such as gamification, immersive sensory communication, real consumer language, and choice-based methods can bring research closer to real-life decision-making.

Jane Randall, SAM Research Director, will present an oral presentation exploring how can we move beyond purchase intent to better understand real product potential in:

“Closing the gap between purchase intent and real product potential — Enhancing the Hedonext® method with complete assessments”

This research will explore how enhanced Hedonext® combines forced choice with complete product evaluation to reveal stronger signals of repeat purchase and market opportunity.

and Thorston Guksch, SAM International Head of Data Science, will also deliver an oral presentation focused on AI and data quality and why it matters in sensory research with: “Detecting fraudulent responses in consumer surveys using an AI-assisted approach”

Thorsten’s research reveals how behavioural metrics and probabilistic models can help identify low-quality or fraudulent survey responses from speeders, bots, and disengaged participants, supporting smarter, risk-based data cleaning.

Alongside our keynote and 2 oral presentations, SAM has 9 research poster exhibits in Oslo!

Lise Dreyfuss will present our research poster:

“Can hedonic scales be replaced? Exploring indirect methods for measuring sensory acceptability through food leftovers” - investigating whether food leftovers can provide an objective indicator of product acceptability can reduce reliance on self-reported liking scales.

Sebastian Gräper will present SAM’s research posters:

“Emotional dynamics of fragrance: an approach to perfume differentiation” - exploring how fragrances evoke emotional responses that change over time, helping reveal differentiation opportunities beyond traditional liking measures.

and

“Man vs. Machine. Comparing AI-led and human-led qualitative interviews in sensory product evaluation — a case study on fish finger prototypes” - Rather than replacing one approach with another, human and AI-led methods can work together to support scalable, cost-efficient qualitative research.

Jane Randall will showcase:

“Product superiority in FMCG: an evidence-based framework for high-impact and responsible product evaluation” - exploring how purpose, category, consumer, and competitive context should shape methodology choice.

Thorsten Guksch will present:

“Comparing human, LLM-based and embedding approaches for analysing consumer open comments in sensory product tests” - comparing human coding, LLM-based categorisation and embedding approaches to understand how each captures consumer language; from interpretability and scalability to deeper semantic insight.

Adam Curtis will present:

“From sensory experience to sensory discovery: innovation in a ‘social-first’ world” - exploring how social media, influencers, and digital content shape expectations before consumers physically experience a product.

Hélène Allain will present SAM’s research posters:

“Beyond performance monitoring: rethinking long-term stability in trained sensory panels” - identifying the individual contributions to panel variability and providing tailored feedback to support panellist performance and engagement.

and

“Testing silent renovations: Comparing Consumer Discrimination Methods While Preserving Acceptance” - revealing how to better evaluate silent product reformulations across categories to help brands make clearer go/no-go decisions while protecting consumer trust.

Pushan Tagore will present SAM’s research poster:

“How to mitigate confidence and risk in a silent renovation approach: a UK crispy chicken case” - demonstrating how a consumer-based approach can support lower-risk product reformulation to identify viable alternatives and guide clear, evidence-based go/no-go decisions.

We look forward to seeing you in Oslo this autumn! Visit SAM at stand 13 & 15 to talk innovation!

Can't make it to Oslo?

We'd still love to share our insights with you. We will be delivering a summary of our research presentations in short webinars during September and October. If any of these topics catch your interest, get in touch - we'll be happy to follow up with you.
