Improvement of packaging through change in materials may have an impact on the product inside.
SAM tested the sensory impacts of pet food packaging related to appearance (color, texture) and smell with pet owners, in addition to the market impacts - user experience, purchase intent and product/brand image. The client needed concise validation of material change and strategies to monitor possible change in market share.
SAM conducted CLT with 100 pet owners evaluating 4 key products for the brand. Consumers were requested to reproduce the way in which they would serve the product to their pet in the home environment.
Results showed that the change of pack material was too risky, as the decreasing pet owners’ satisfaction could lead to loss of sales. Thanks to consumers insights and SAM recommendations R&D teams were provided with clear recommendations to reshape the pack to make it acceptable to target consumers.
