Sensory Testing for Personal Care Products

Challenge

To increase strength and absorbency of a leading toilet tissue brand without compromising its trademark softness.

Solution

A series of design options were benchmarked against existing product and competitors using our SAM Sensory Profiling methodology. Each attribute was assessed following a specific protocol using both in vivo and in vitro assessments.

Outcome

A clear understanding of the interaction between product attributes and how this was impacted by design variables was created. A clear route for development of the ‘winning’ prototype was defined and assessment of subsequent development samples against the target saved both time and money.
